The Nikon WT-5 is meant to go with the newly released Nikon D4 — the device attaches to the D4 as a dongle and allows the camera to transmit images and HD video wirelessly to your device of choice.
We mentioned in our first impressions of the Nikon D4 earlier that the D4 has a web server built into the camera that can be accessed via an ethernet cable directly hooked up to the camera or through connecting to a WIFI signal broadcasted by a connected wireless transmitter. The WT-5 fits nicely into a special connector in the Nikon D4 to allow WIFI enabled devices like the iPhone or a laptop to connect directly to the D4’s web interface.
The WT-5 is less than half the size of the WT-4 and much more compact — it doesn’t have all the wires and power cables that the older transmitter requires. The new transmitter is also supposed to be able to transfer files at twice the speed of the WT-4. However, the WT-5 is only compatible with the Nikon D4.
