Pure perfection from afar. Introducing the first super-telephoto lens in the NIKKOR Z lineup – the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S. Bringing together superior optical performance and operability, it’s lighter than the typical lens in this category. See how this stunning piece of engineering can bring you even closer to your creative vision.
SEIZE THE MOMENT NEAR OR FAR
Experience true versatility with this lens. Capture a range of subjects, from high-speed motor races and distant birds in flight, to close-up shots of stunning flora and fauna with the longest focal length1 available in the current NIKKOR Z lens line-up at 100mm to 400mm. Get even closer to your subjects and extend your focal distance to 560mm and 800mm respectively with the Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x and Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x2 – all while maintaining excellent resolution.
Preserve unpredictable and fleeting movements with increased accuracy on birds, automotives, trains and airplanes when paired with the Z 9’s “Animal” (birds included) and “Vehicle” AF subject detection options.
UNRIVALLED OPTICAL PERFORMANCE
Engineer the extraordinary with this optical masterpiece. Realise sharp and clear images from edge-to-edge with Extra-low Dispersion (ED and Super ED) lens elements that suppress chromatic aberrations with minimal colour bleed. Utilising Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat further reduce ghost and flare effects, even in the presence of a strong light source, such as stadium lights.
Capture not only distant subjects, but also close-up ones, such as flowers or insects easily with a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.38x, and with the shortest minimum focus distance in its class3, the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S is able to acquire focus with a minimum distance of 0.75m4 at the widest focal length.
Focus, frame, and shoot even at a lower shutter speed with Vibration Reduction (VR) performance that compensates up to 5.5-stop. Take things to the next level with VR sport mode that enables you to capture erratically moving subjects – great for capturing scenes such as football players on a pitch. Further minimise blur and expand imaging possibilities when used together with the powerful in-body 5-axis VR image stabilisation on a Z series FX-format camera6.
INCREDIBLE HANDLING
Experience great balance and handling with this lens. Eliminate the need to constantly shift the position of your hands on the lens barrel with the newly developed Inner Balance Technology that maintains a constant centre of gravity when zooming in and out, for minimal interruptions. The lens barrel also prevents accidental retraction, otherwise known as lens creeping, with no torque adjusting ring, which is especially helpful when shooting upwards to capture birds or planes. To enable quicker zooming, the lens has the smallest rotation angle of 80˚ in its class7 – making it great for capturing fast moving objects at sporting events or wildlife situations. Perfect for those working in the field, the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S is the lightest in its class with the lens weighing approximately 1,355g7.
Built to withstand unpredictable weather conditions8, a sealant and rubber gasket on the lens mount prevents external contaminants from entering the lens. A fluorine coat on the lens’ surface prevents any debris from sticking onto the glass and makes it easier to clean for better usability and greater longevity all-round.
SMOOTH FROM SCENE TO SCENE
Built with consideration for videos, the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S is designed to deliver a great video recording experience. Enjoy fewer audio distractions with the adoption of a stepping motor (STM) and a click-less control ring, which reduces stray sounds during video recording. Capture natural looking videos with a design that minimises focus breathing as the angle of view does not change when focus pulling, and achieve better control of focus and brightness with a smooth operation control ring.
NEXT GENERATION DESIGN
Designed to up your game. An information panel at the top of the lens delivers vital details at a glance, such as aperture, shooting distance, and depth of field without the hassle of looking through the camera’s viewfinder or monitor. Assign frequently used functions to L-Fn and L-Fn2 customisable buttons at your preference for a more efficient shooting experience.
